MOVIE REVIEW: X-MEN

So i held my breathe when I heard another movie in the X-men universe was coming. But this time who would be the movie be based on,they had already given us rogue, wolverine, professor Xavier and Magneto at the center of things, who was it going to be now? Imagine the shock when I heard the new movie would be based on wolverine again!!! Ok what did they want to tell us that we have not already seen in the last 5 movies?
Then the preview came out and I saw flashes of samurais and japanese culture. Apparently this new movie was going to be based on Logan's Experience with Yuriko(remember her? The 5 claw personal assistant of William Stryker in X-men 2)..wrong on all counts. Remember the Silver Samurai from the cartoon series Wolverine and the X-men? Now you are getting somewhere.

The movie started at a medium pace and so it was through out.. No hurry but they didn't waste time on frivolities too..always straight to the point. At the beginning we are shown how Wolverine saves Yashida's life during the Nagasaki bombing of 1945..fast forward over 60years later and you have Yukio picking him in a bar to come pay his last respect to an aged and dying Yashida. Twist and turns when you discover Yukio's mutant abilities. Once Wolverines lands in japan, the whole scenario begins to play out. Yashida is now the richest man in Japan and scared of dying and having his whole empire crumble. Also introduce to Shingen,Yashida's son and Shingen's daughter Mariko..and the mutant Viper who happens to be Yashida's in-house doctor. Throw in a few more yakuza thugs and a couple of Ninja assasins and you have a movie to grip your seat for.
Was trying to spot flaws all through the movie and happily could come up with none. Tho wouldn't say the movie was exceptional tho coz it was a different take from the usual Xmen series when you always want someone to pop up in a fight with their mutant powers. The twist at the end was killing, lovely! But seriously, the highlight of the movie was Wolverine's fight with a Yakuza thug ontop of a bullet train. It was a classic fight.
So I guess givin them a high five for the movie won't be out of place but seriously was are not getting bored of Wolverine. Can you please focus on another character?! Gambit perhaps?!
The Wolverine 7/10
